It is 1868. Ulysses S. Grant was elected as the 18th President of the United States. Louisa May Alcott published the first volume of Little Women and Wilkie Collins published The Moonstone - which went on to inspire the genre of dective fiction. In fashion - women wore a costume called a walking suit when they went for a stroll to do their errands or to call on friends.
I have recolored this image of a women in a walking suit that I scanned from an 1868 Godey's Lady's book - a favorite fashion magazine of the day. If you click on the image above you can download a zip file with all three versions as .png files. Enjoy!
superb work, Mary. That is a simple walking suit? I thought it might be an elaborate attire for a special dance! I think today I'd be lost in all those ruffles :-)
Thanks for using my texture :-)
Happy Art Friday!

Beautifully done! I have a nice volume of the 1866 Godey Lady that I found at the antique shop just steps from my house. Didn't pay much for it either. How cool is that? :-) Those volumes were chock full of beautiful pictures and stories, quite a feat for the day.
Incidentally I blog about Louisa May Alcott if you wanted to come over for a visit: http://louisamayalcott.wordpress.com.
